Artist's Comments

I intercepted this severe thunderstorm on my first solo chase in Hooker and Thomas counties, in northern Nebraska. It had some weak rotation and lasted quite a while, but it was high-based and had little to no threat of tornadoes. It looked really nice.

This was a lot of fun because there were a lot of chasers around. Even the VORTEX2 crew was nearby, though I did not see them. The weather pattern is very quiet right now, and this was the only good storm around for miles... and for the next few days!

Download to get a closer look. Check out the train, too.

That looks like a gorgeous storm. Are you doing any post work or is that how it really comes out? Just curious cuz I had to do loads of editing on my latest weather photos since they came out so horrible even with my new camera.

Yeah I do a bit of post-production. I stitched the photos automatically using Photoshop's photomerge, then I used some curves adjustment layers on the sky and the ground, and a saturation adjustment layer on top of all that.

Ah, very cool. I love the photomerge option in PS.

BTW, your weather photos are incredible. I absolutely love them. :)
